A successful evening of dining involves the occasional stain on your tablecloth. It seems obvious, but an important step after blowing out dinner candles is to wait until the candle and its wax have hardened before moving the candlestick. Didn't succeed and still have candle wax on your tablecloth? Don't panic! Discover how to remove candle wax safely and effectively in 5 simple steps, without damaging your tablecloth.
Step 1 – Allow the candle wax to harden completely
Don't try to remove the candle wax while it's still soft. Let it harden completely first. If you try to wipe it away too soon, you'll just rub it deeper into the fabric.
Step 2 - Carefully scrape away the candle wax
Use a blunt knife or a plastic card to carefully scrape the hardened candle wax from the tablecloth. Be patient and avoid damaging the fabric.
Step 3: Melt the remaining candle wax with an iron
Lay the tablecloth flat. Place a paper towel, coffee filter, or thin cotton cloth on the stain. Iron it with a warm (not steam!) iron . The candle wax will melt and be absorbed by the paper. Repeat this with clean paper until the stain is gone.
Step 4: Degrease the area
Make a solution of warm water and a little dish soap. Gently dab the area to remove any grease residue. You can also use liquid ox gall soap for stubborn grease stains. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
Step 5: Wash the tablecloth
Wash the tablecloth at a maximum of 30°C, according to the care label. Let it air dry. Chances are your tablecloth will be sparkling clean again!
Still have a stain? No worries. At Bonyours, we believe: “Stains are memories that last forever.” Beautiful evenings sometimes leave their mark – and that's why that lovely dinner stays with you forever.
